Cottage Ammenities
Our little bay-side cottage is small but it provides everything you'll need for a memorable stay on the Cape. The cottage can sleep up to eight people. There are three bedrooms, each with a double bed, and a sofa that pulls out to create another double sleeping space.
There is only one bathroom with a stand-up shower but the outdoor shower space makes dealing with one bathroom more tolerable. Taking an outdoor shower really is part of the Cape Cod experience. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom drawer. There is an iron and ironing board in the linen closet in the hall. The humidity is usually enough to combat wrinkles though.
The cottage has a tiny but well equipped kitchen. There is an apartment sized refrigerator/freezer and a gas range/oven. There is a microwave oven, toaster, and coffee pot that will grind your beans or accommodate ground coffee. The double sink makes dish-washing easier which is a good thing as there is no dishwasher. The cottage has enough plates, glasses, etc. for 8. It is also stocked with pots, pans, a lobster pot (located under banquette bench), Pyrex, serving dishes, a blender, etc. In addition, the cottage is equipped with a Weber gas grill that is hooked up to our gas line so you'll never run out of gas while grilling. Simply turn the red dial (in the left front corner of the deck) so that it is parallel with the deck and you'll open the gas line. Power up like any other grill.
The flat screen t.v. in the living room is a SMART TV. You will have access to YouTube TV, Netflix, AmazonPrime, or any other apps you carry subscriptions to.
The house is equipped with Wi-Fi. You can find the access code in a green envelope on the side of the fridge marked, "friends".
There is one air conditioning unit in the main living space in addition to a fan in each room. Typically, the fans make it comfortable sleeping at night.
There is a washer and dryer in the basement. Please be extraordinarily careful going down the stairs as they are steep.
Also, you'll find a beach umbrella, boogie boards, 2 children's ocean kayaks, two stand up paddle boards (SUP), a couple of good beach chairs, as well as a couple of crappy ones, and some coolers in the basement and/or shed. Beach items should be removed through the bulkhead. You are welcome to use any of these items but please treat them with the same care you'd use if they were your own.
There is a fire pit, chess board, and Adirondack chairs in the front yard. The remote for the twinkle lights (with dimmer) is on the little shelf below the key hooks near the back door. Please enjoy with great care.
There are a couple of fuzzy throws in the linen closet if you're cold in the evening.
Finally, in the shed you'll find four adult bikes. Feel free to use them but PLEASE wear helmets. Our helmets can be used if they meet your needs. There is a combination lock on the shed. The combo to the lock is posted on the fridge in an envelope marked "friends."
We are a short ride to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The easiest way to access it is to take Cooks Brook to Massasoit Road. Take a right onto Massasoit and follow until you get to Old County Rd. Take a left onto Old County and cross Rt. 6. There is a crosswalk and traffic light that will enable you to safely cross. Go straight onto Brackett Road. The bike trail is a short distance down Bracket. Turn right on the trail to head towards Orleans or left to go to Wellfleet. We love to ride towards Orleans. The bike trail will bring you downtown. Sometimes you have to enjoy a treat at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow before heading home. (12 miles round trip.) Other nearby spots (walking distance) in Orleans center are Land Ho (awesome for pub food and they serve adult beverages.) If you're up for a longer ride, stay on the trail until you get to Colbie's in Brewster. Here you can grab lunch, dinner, or ice cream. (20 miles round trip)

What you need to bring...and what you can leave at home
To bring:
Bring a willingness to RELAX and go with the flow. Nothing else is really essential. Bring your bathing suits as the beaches are irresistible. Bring casual shorts and t-shirts as that is acceptable wear just about everywhere. Bring a sweatshirt as Cape Cod evenings can be cool. Bring your flip flops because that is what you'll want to wear most of the time. Pack a pair of sneakers for biking and walking. Think about bringing a rain jacket...just in case. Bring your PJs. Pack essential toiletries and medications.
Bring any grocery items you may want. Stop and Shop is just under 15 minutes away in Orleans. There are a variety of specialty and convenience stores in close proximity to the cottage. Check out the Helpful Hints page for our two cents. Bring sunscreen if you're picky. If you're not, there is sunscreen and bug spray in the bottom drawer in the bathroom.
To leave at home:
There are clean sheets on every bed (as well as pillows) and on the pull out. There are bath towels, hand towels, and face cloths in the bathroom. There are beach towels in the closet of the last bedroom on the left. There are dish towels and oven mitts in the kitchen drawers.
The fridge has all typical condiments. No need to bring those. At the very least, check out what is there before making purchases. We have MOST spices...purchased at the Atlantic Spice Company in Truro (good stuff). Any of the dry goods are free game. There is plenty of dish soap (more under the kitchen sink if you need it). There are laundry detergent sheets and wool dryer balls in the basement by the machines as well as stain remedies.
We have paper towels, tissues, and toilet tissue (stored in the hallway linen closet).
There is additional soap for the outdoor shower under the sink in the bathroom. We love it but there is also pump soap in the shower too.
