- The doors can be locked by pushing the inside knobs in and turning. Then just shut the door.
- The windows can stay open when you're out. If there is heavy rain, you'll want to shut the windows on the gable ends of the house. The others should be fine as there is a big overhang. Unless the winds are whipping and the rain is coming down sideways, you won't have a problem. Should you want/need to shut windows, the sea stars can be a pain in the tush. I sometimes use a butter knife to finagle them. Sometimes the stars break. No biggie.
- The "clicker" can be found in the blue ceramic seahorse dish on the lobster trap coffee table.
- We'd love it if you'd water the hanging plant and herbs and empty the dehumidifiers in the basement on a daily basis. It is also not the end of the world if you don't.
- Take out menus are available in the white bucket on top of the fridge.
- Trash can be placed in the large barrel in the shed. There are large trash bags kept in the shed to line the barrel with. Smaller trash bags are kept under the kitchen sink and and liners for the bathroom trash are kept under the bathroom sink. Leave all trash in the shed at the end of your stay. We'll bring it to the transfer station for you.
- Recycling can be placed in the silver bucket outside the door on the deck. Cardboard/paper can be put in the shed.
Groceries...
- Stop and Shop is located on Rt. 6a in Orleans. Shaws is a little further down 6a but also in Orleans. We also like a market called Friends Marketplace. It is located at 57 Main Street in Orleans. The Superette in Eastham on Route 6 (heading back toward Orleans) is decent for odds and ends. It is like a larger Country Sooper. Sam's Deli (on Bracket St.) is a tiny grocery store/deli where you can get most essentials. Sam's, Friends, and the Superette have amazing pre-packaged marinated steak, chicken and turkey tips.
- For great produce, like corn on the cob, visit the Log Cabin. It is a small shed (not kidding) on Rt. 6 (right side) when heading towards Orleans.
- For meats, visit Sam's Deli on Brackett Rd. in Eastham. Friends Marketplace in Orleans or the Superette in Eastham also have great selections.
- For fresh seafood we like the Friendly Fisherman's Market. It is on Rt. 6 in Eastham. Mac's in Eastham is also very good but more expensive.
Restaurants...
There really are too many good ones to make an exhaustive list but we've listed our favorites. Let us know if you find one we should try.
- Friendly Fisherman - Best lobster rolls! Great fried seafood. Skip the chowder. Short on atmosphere. BYOB but there is a packie nextdoor. Rt. 6 Eastham
- Sam's Deli has amazing sandwiches and other deli items. The wait is often long. We suggest calling in your order or ordering online and allowing for plenty of time as a 40-60 minute wait on the weekends especially is not uncommon.
- Caroline's Bar and Grill - Of course we love it! Entrees are amazing but be prepared to pay a little more. Also, they have bands on Friday nights and the place gets rocking.
- For a fancy night out we LOVE Blackfish in Truro or The Mews or Jimmy's Hideaway in Provincetown. All are a bit pricey but worth it. Get reservations in advance for these.
- Our latest favorite is Macs Shack in Wellfleet. We like the restaurant versus the clam shack that sits on the beach. Both are good. Macs has a great raw bar and sushi. They also have delicious non-seafood options. My absolute favorite dish is the halibut with lobster mashed potatoes. CRAZY good!
- The Fairway in Eastham for breakfast or dinner. Nanna's potato pancakes are a family favorite. You can't go wrong with anything.
- You really can't miss with the following either: Rock Harbor Grill in Orleans, Big Dog's BBQ (in the bowling ally...really) in Orleans, Van Rensselaer's in Wellfleet (although it feels like an old folks restaurant the food is good), The Pearl in Wellfleet (great atmosphere), the Bookstore in Wellfleet, and C-Shore in Wellfleet. Use the Tripadvisor app. The reviews are very helpful and usually spot on.
Ice Cream
- Ice Cream Cafe in Orleans on rt. 28 just off the 6a/28 rotary. AMAZING
- Nauset Creamery in Eastham
- Sweet Escape in Truro (on Rt. 6 and worth the drive) Order Wicked Mud Flats!
Donuts and Breakfast Goodies
- Hole in One in Eastham and Orleans - Their english muffin bread is really good too. There donuts are AMAZING. They have great muffins and a wide variety of other pastries and coffees.
- PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet has the BEST croissants on the Cape! Their chocolate croissants are over the top good. They open at 7:00 AM. Get there early and the line won't be too bad. Their lattes and coffee drinks are also exceptional.
- Cottage Street Cafe in Orleans (next to Ice Cream Cafe) is very good. They are known for their muffins and I hear their croissants are also excellent but I cannot speak from personal experience at this time.
Other
- Sam's Deli is amazing for sandwiches. Great meats, deli items, salads, specialty items, grocery, etc. Owen is in love with the Harry Potter.
- The Chocolate Cafe in Eastham. Great candy, coffee, breakfast sandwiches (The BEST we've EVER had...order the "Moe"), etc. Their chocolate sea-salt caramels are crazy good.
- The Chocolate Sparrow in Orleans is also great for chocolate, candy, ice cream, and coffee/tea treats.
- Red Barn is good for pizza as is The Fairway and Good Eats. All are on rt. 6 in Eastham.
- Arnold's is super popular and the line is always LONG. We've been a few times. It is good. It gets great reviews. We'd rather dodge the lines and head to the Friendly Fisherman.
- In terms of bike shops, we prefer Idle Times in Eastham/Orleans but Little Capistrano in Eastham gets good reviews too.
